RELEASE INFORMATION
Overtones is the debut release from Nett Duo, a new acoustic bass and guitar duo formed by legendary jazz bass virtuoso Charnett Moffett with guitarist Jana Herzen, Motéma Music's founder and President.
Out digitally on December 28, this all-original free-form program takes the listener on a highly sensitive improvisational journey with jazz, folk, and classical overtones. Conceived by Moffett as a stress-busting antidote to anxiety, and the hustle and bustle of our times, this is music that relaxes the mind, brings a smile and leads the listener within. A perfect program to re-center for the New Year, Overtones faithfully captures the vibrational nuances of Moffett and Herzen's distinctive string instruments and reveals their considerable musical empathy.
More about the tracks -
1. Overtones - (Moffett/Herzen) a free-form spontaneously improvised meditational composition in the key of D Major.
2. Metamorphosis - (C. Moffett) A thematic melody in the key of A minor first played in unison and then explored in free-form improvisation.
3. Following The Idea -(Moffett/Herzen) a free-form improvised composition wherein the walking jazz bass line serves as a pivot to evolve the improvised idea.
4. Afro Cruz - (Jana Herzen) an original composition by Herzen wherein she translated traditional interlocking Congolese drumming rhythms to the six strings of a guitar. The piece features Herzen dynamically alternating between various rhythm and lead parts while Moffett creates a variety of bass groove and lead harmonizations in counterpoint.
5. Free The Blues - (Moffett/Herzen) A brief free-form excursion of soulful and gritty electric blues guitar riffs from Herzen that dance in and around Moffett's free groove walking bass.
6. Celestial Dimensions - (C. Moffett) A free-form meditative composition performed on solo upright bass. Moffett alternates between pizzicato and bowing creating a conversational effect.
7. Time Traveler - (Moffett/Herzen) A spontaneously improvised rocky funky electric blues groove in E minor.
